Soldier Summit

It is pure legend, but some say the way Soldier Summit obtained its name is from the following story - The departing soldiers from abandoned Camp Floyd were caught unprepared in a chilling blizzard in July 1861 on the summit. A couple of soldiers died during the storm and were buried on the summit.  Anyone that drives through the canyon very often, knows that storms of this type during the summer are very possible.

Soldier Summit was a railroad community.  It was a point where trains could stop for maintenance and refreshment.  There was once a cafe and restaurant of fairly recent origin. The town thrived during the mid-twenties.  Due to railroad economics, most the people moved to Helper by 1930.

Soldier Summit is easy find.  It's at the summit and on the north side of U.S. Highway 6-50.
