Upper Kanab

The boarding house.

Bulldozer with patent date of 1905.

Upper Kanab is located up a canyon with with a mixture of beautiful colors.  A few evergreens are seen on one mountainside as red and orange rock are seen on another distant mountainside.

Upper Kanab was founded as a small ranching village in 1882. Winter time was difficult.  Students had to ski or snowshoe to school.  In the first quarter of the Twentieth Century, streams began to dry up, farms went sour, and people moved out.

Upper Kanab is found 2.5 miles east on a dirt road from Alton.  The boarding house and the backdrop make for a very photogenic ghost town. There is a range gate before you reach the town site. If it is open, leave it open. If it is closed, then close it after you pass.
