Hillsdale

Hillsdale is a small semi-ghost town located just off the freeway.  A few current residents live in their restored homes that fit the ghost town setting.  There are a few abandoned shacks and homes that still stand.

Joel Hills Johnson, who helped found Johnson in Kane County, left his town and built a sawmill on the Sevier river.  Hillsdale was founded in his honor.  Most of the town's residents left around 1886, because harsh winter conditions made farming difficult.  A few families stayed until about 1941.  After that, the land has primarily been used for summer grazing.
